A2: What My Parents Taught Me
My parents are very different. My mum is calmer than my dad, and my dad is more talkative than my mum. But they both work hard and always find time for me and my little brother.
When I was seven, my dad taught me to ride a bike. I fell many times, but he didn't let me give up. One Sunday I finally rode to the end of the street without help. I was so happy!
My mum taught me to bake. Her apple pie is the best in our family. Last weekend I baked it myself for the first time.
Sometimes we argue, for example, when I play computer games for too long. But we always talk and make up.
Next month is my parents' wedding anniversary. My brother and I are going to cook a surprise dinner for them.

B1: Parents and Teenagers
The relationship between parents and children changes a lot when children become teenagers. A child who used to tell their parents everything may suddenly want more privacy, and this can be difficult for both sides.
Psychologists say that arguments in this period are normal. Teenagers are trying to understand who they are, so they question rules which they accepted without thinking when they were younger. However, this does not mean that they no longer need their parents' support.
Many conflicts happen because of small everyday things: tidying up, screen time or coming home late. Although these problems seem serious at the moment, they can usually be solved if both sides listen to each other calmly.
Families have also changed over the years. In many homes both parents work, and fathers have become much more involved in bringing up children than they were a few generations ago. Grandparents, who often lived with the family in the past, now usually live separately.
I have argued with my parents many times, but I have also realised that they are usually right about the important things. If I have children one day, I will try to remember how it feels to be a teenager.

B2: The Hardest Job in the World
Parenting is frequently described as the hardest job in the world, and it is not difficult to see why. It comes with no instructions, no holidays and no guarantee of success, yet its results shape not only individual lives but society as a whole.
Every generation of parents faces its own dilemmas. Today's mothers and fathers must decide how much freedom to give children who carry the entire internet in their pockets, a challenge their own parents could hardly have imagined. Striking a balance between protecting a child and allowing them to make mistakes has arguably never been harder.
Some parents respond by controlling every aspect of their children's lives, from their choice of friends to their future careers. Well-intentioned as this may be, it often backfires: children who are never allowed to fail tend to grow into adults who are afraid to take risks. Others go to the opposite extreme, leaving teenagers to cope with problems they are not yet mature enough to solve.
What seems to matter most is not a particular method but the quality of the relationship. Children who feel genuinely listened to are more likely to come to their parents when something goes wrong, which is, after all, the moment when support is needed most.
Looking back, I realise how unfair I was to my parents during my early teens. Had they reacted to my moods with anger rather than patience, I doubt we would be as close as we are now. Not until I started helping to look after my younger cousins did I understand how much effort lies behind what seems like ordinary family life.
